Defending champion Roger Federer failed to reach the Wimbledon final for the first time since 2002 after losing in four sets to Czech Thomas Berdych at the quarter-final stage.

Over the last seven years the Swiss world number two had won six titles and lost in the 2008 final, but fell to a shock defeat to the 12th seed on Centre Court, losing 6-4 3-6 6-1 6-4.

Berdych will face Novak Djokovic in his first Wimbledon semi-final on Friday.
